VALORANT's Patch 10.1 introduces a significant new Rank Shield system that protects players from immediate rank demotions, similar to systems in League of Legends, Marvel Rivals, and Fortnite.

Key Features of Rank Shields:

  • Players receive two protection charges when reaching tier one of any rank (except Radiant)
  • Shields prevent demotion for up to two losses at 0 RR
  • Only active in tier one of each rank (e.g., Silver 1, Gold 1, etc.)
  • Cannot be used in tier two or three of any rank

How to Recharge Shields:

  • Demote and promote back to tier one of the same rank
  • Advance to tier one of a higher rank

Important Notes:

  • Shields only protect from dropping from tier one to the previous rank's tier three
  • System helps discourage intentional throwing, as more losses are required for demotion
  • Not available for Radiant rank

This new feature significantly reduces ranked anxiety and provides a safety net for players on the edge of rank demotion, making the competitive experience more enjoyable while maintaining competitive integrity.
