Path of Exile Players Left in Limbo as Development Delays Force Indefinite Content Pause

Burning witch surrounded by skeletal figures
Path of Exile 1 players face significant disappointment as game director Jonathan Rogers announces an indefinite delay of upcoming content. The development team's focus on Path of Exile 2 has led to the postponement of both new leagues and patch 3.26 for the original game.
Rogers acknowledged that shifting PoE 1 developers to work on the sequel was necessary due to early access challenges but admitted it was a mistake to make promises that couldn't be maintained. Work on PoE 1 updates will resume only after Path of Exile 2's patch 0.2.0 is released and stabilized.
The community's response has been overwhelmingly negative, with over 184 pages of forum responses expressing frustration and disappointment. Many players, some of whom have invested years in the original game, are considering leaving the game entirely. The situation is particularly concerning as it's been six months since the last PoE 1 league, with the possibility of a year-long content drought ahead.
While Grinding Gear Games maintains their commitment to eventually supporting both games simultaneously, the current situation has cast doubt on this promise. The development team acknowledges they're still learning how to manage both titles effectively, but the community's patience is wearing thin.
