League of Legends Wiki: Everything About Diana - Champion History & Trivia
Diana is voiced by Nicole Oliver in both League of Legends and Legends of Runeterra. Her character design was heavily influenced by Lady Gaga, particularly from the Alejandro music video.
Diana was designed as Leona's polar opposite, wielding a weapon inspired by both the Shotel and Khopesh. Her theme song was performed by Lisa 'Saiyaka' Thorn, who also created the Crescent Strike targeting indicator.
During development, Diana was conceived as a lesbian to challenge Solari orthodoxy. This was officially confirmed during the 2021 Pride event with the release of "Rise With Me" and reaffirmed in 2023's Pride event.
Her signature weapon is crafted from Moonsilver, a magical metal forged under moonlight. Originally black-haired, Diana's hair turned silver after becoming an Aspect.
Gameplay Features:
- First champion with animations for both crowd control and movement speed buffs
- Moonfall indicator reflects lunar phases based on enemy count:
- 1 enemy: New moon
- 2 enemies: Waning crescent
- 3 enemies: Last quarter
- 4 enemies: Waning gibbous
- 5 enemies: Full moon
Notable Voice Lines:
- "The moon also rises" (referencing Leona's "The sun always rises")
- "Chosen of the moon" (counterpart to "Chosen of the sun")
- Both champions share the line "Twilight fades"
Diana's name derives from the PIE root *dyew- meaning "to shine" and shares its origin with the Roman goddess of the Moon. Her original ultimate ability, Moonfall, was reworked to improve team fighting capabilities.
