Health is a fundamental statistic that determines a unit's hit points in League of Legends. When damage reduces health to 0, the unit dies. Health can be restored through regeneration, healing, life steal, and vamp effects.

Every champion has base health that increases per level. Maximum health includes both base and bonus health from items, abilities, runes, and other sources. The health bar appears green at the top of the HUD.

Key Health Mechanics:

  • Effective Health: The theoretical damage a unit can take before dying, accounting for armor and magic resistance
  • Grey Health: Portion of recently taken damage stored on health bar for certain champions
  • Health Thresholds: Maximum health caps that cannot be exceeded
  • Health as Resource: Some champions use health to cast abilities but cannot kill themselves this way

Ways to Increase Health:

Items

  • Core items like Warmog's Armor
  • Item passives (Fimbulwinter, Heartsteel, etc.)
  • Consumables like Elixir of Iron

Champion Abilities

  • Growth abilities (Cho'Gath's Feast, Sion's Soul Furnace)
  • Transformation abilities (Shyvana's Dragon's Descent)
  • Buff abilities (Lulu's Wild Growth)

Runes

  • Grasp of the Undying
  • Overgrowth
  • Health rune shards

The highest achievable health is 13,318 on a level 18 Ornn with optimal items, runes, and buffs.

Health bars display differently based on unit type:

  • Small units: Point-by-point markers
  • Minions/monsters: Basic bar
  • Large monsters: Segmented bar with number display
  • Champions: Hatch marks per 100 health

The gold value of health is 2.67 per point.
