Bungie has taken Destiny 2 offline following severe server issues during the launch of Episode Heresy. The game went down at approximately 2pm CT, just hours after the episode's release.

Players encountered multiple error codes, including Plum and Chicken, immediately after the 11pm CT launch. While some players briefly accessed the new content, most were unable to log in. After a 15-minute complete shutdown, Bungie implemented a strict queue system to manage server load while investigating the issues.

Community manager Dylan "dmg_04" Gafner announced that player access would be restored gradually to help identify the cause of instability. However, players reported their queue positions increasing rather than decreasing.

This launch crisis comes at a particularly challenging time for Bungie, as Destiny 2 has experienced record-low player counts in recent months according to SteamCharts.com. The troubled launch follows two poorly-received episodes and comes in the wake of significant layoffs at Bungie in both 2023 and 2024.
