Riot Games has announced significant changes to League of Legends' reward system, though Hextech Chests will remain removed from the game. The developer acknowledges player dissatisfaction with recent changes but emphasizes their commitment to keeping the game free while improving the overall player experience.

Key improvements announced in the February 7 dev blog include:

  • Enhanced battle pass rewards featuring higher quality skins with distinct visual effects
  • Battle pass skins will now unlock their respective champions
  • Streamlined battle pass progression with removed or reworked difficult missions
  • Increased XP gains from Teamfight Tactics toward battle pass progress
  • Blue Essence Emporium returning in April 2025

The new battle pass system will allow for more varied skin themes, moving away from seasonal restrictions to offer more unique cosmetic options. This change directly addresses player feedback about battle pass skin quality and value.

Players can also look forward to the Blue Essence Emporium's return, which will offer exclusive items and rare skins purchasable with Blue Essence. This feature aims to partially compensate for recent changes to the reward system and provide alternative ways to obtain cosmetic content.

These updates represent Riot's effort to balance game sustainability with player satisfaction, though the removal of Hextech Chests remains permanent despite community feedback.
