Key Features of the New Loot Box System:
- Not available for direct purchase
- Earned through weekly rewards, events, and battle pass
- Guarantees a Rare or better cosmetic in every box
- Epic item guaranteed within 5 consecutive boxes
- Legendary item guaranteed within 20 consecutive boxes
- Designed to minimize duplicates
- "I Owe You" credit system for duplicate items
Battle Pass Integration:
- One free Legendary loot box in each battle pass
- Two additional Legendary boxes in Premium battle pass
- All unopened boxes automatically open at season's end
- Does not contain current season or collaboration cosmetics
The new system maintains a purely optional approach, unlike the previous mandatory system in the original Overwatch. Players can still acquire items through the traditional battle pass system while enjoying loot boxes as an additional reward mechanism.
The feature launches on February 18, 2025, with Season 15.
