League of Legends Rune Book Guide: Everything About Pre-Game Rune Setup
The Rune Book is a customization system in League of Legends that allows players to organize and store their runes for different champions and playstyles.

Rune Pages
Players can create multiple rune pages to save different combinations of runes. Each page can be customized independently, meaning the same rune can be used across different pages. This allows for creating specific setups for different champion types or playstyles (e.g., one page for ADCs, another for tanks).

Page Management
- Players can rename pages for quick identification during champion select
- Maximum of 20 total rune pages available (2 free + 18 purchasable)
- Additional pages can be bought with IP from the Store
- Bundle deals for rune pages are occasionally offered at season start
Slot System
A complete rune page contains:
- 9 Mark slots
- 9 Seal slots
- 9 Glyph slots
- 3 Quintessence slots
- Total: 30 rune slots when fully unlocked
Slot unlocking progression:
- Slots unlock gradually as players level up
- Pattern: Mark → Seal → Glyph (repeats 3 times)
- Quintessence slots unlock at levels 10, 20, and 30
- Higher tier runes become available at level 10 (Tier 2) and level 20 (Tier 3)
Rune Combiner
The Rune Combiner was a system for combining unused runes:
- Only unused runes appear in the combiner
- Runes must be of the same tier to combine
- Cannot create Tier 4 runes (maximum is Tier 3)
- Some valuable runes (armor penetration, magic penetration, hybrid penetration) were not available through combining
- Combined runes typically resulted in lower-value secondary runes
Note: The Rune Combiner has since been removed from the game.
