Rengar is a ferocious vastayan trophy hunter from the Kiilash tribe who lives for tracking and killing dangerous creatures. Born as the runt to his tribe's chieftain Ponjaf, he was initially rejected but taught himself to become a formidable hunter through sheer determination.

After being discovered by the legendary hunter Markon, Rengar learned crucial hunting skills and spent years honing his abilities by pursuing the most dangerous prey in Shurima. He eventually returned to his tribe seeking acceptance, but was tasked with killing the void creature Kha'Zix as a test.

During this hunt, Kha'Zix took Rengar's left eye but escaped. Upon returning defeated, Rengar realized his father was a coward who hadn't hunted in years. He killed Ponjaf and became the new chieftain, but chose to leave the tribe to pursue Kha'Zix for his own satisfaction rather than tribal acceptance.
