League of Legends players are expressing widespread frustration with the game's Season 2025 progression system and reward structure. The main points of contention include:
Battle Pass Issues:
- Players need approximately 2.5 weeks to earn enough Blue Essence (200) for a single champion
- Level-up rewards have been significantly reduced
- Hextech Chests, a primary source of free content, have been removed
Impact on Player Experience:
- New players struggle to access the game's 170 champions
- Casual players find it nearly impossible to earn meaningful rewards
- The new gacha-style system requires substantial financial investment for guaranteed rewards

Current System Limitations:
- Reduced Blue and Orange Essence acquisition
- Removal of Glorious Champion Capsules from level-ups
- Significantly fewer opportunities to earn free skins and champions
- ARAM matches no longer provide meaningful rewards for S-rank performance
Despite Riot's January update promising increased rewards, players maintain that the new system is significantly less rewarding than its predecessor, which served the community for nearly a decade. Many veteran players are now actively discouraging newcomers from starting the game, citing the unrewarding progression system as a major deterrent.
Riot Games has been contacted for comment regarding these progression system concerns.
