How Hyperosmia Works in Phasmophobia: A Key Ghost Identification Feature
Hyperosmia in Phasmophobia is a unique weakness that affects only the Moroi ghost type, causing it to be extremely sensitive to smells, particularly Incense. This trait can be used as a reliable identification method during ghost hunts.
When encountering a Moroi, its hyperosmia causes it to be stunned by Incense for 7.5 seconds, compared to the standard 5-second stun duration for other ghost types. This extended stun duration serves as a key identifying feature.
To test for hyperosmia:
- Wait for a ghost hunt to begin
- Get within range of the ghost based on your Incense tier:
- Tier I: 3 meters
- Tier II: 4 meters
- Tier III: 5 meters
- Light the Incense and count the stun duration
- If the ghost is stunned for 7.5 seconds, it's likely a Moroi

Important notes:
- The Moroi's official evidence types are Spirit Box, Ghost Writing, and Freezing Temps
- The Mimic can temporarily copy the Moroi's hyperosmia trait
- Always test multiple times to ensure accurate identification
- This method is particularly useful in challenge modes like No Evidence or Hide and Seek: Extreme
Remember to gather additional evidence when possible, as The Mimic can temporarily replicate this behavior. This knowledge is especially valuable during challenging gameplay modes where traditional evidence gathering might be restricted.
